Can't
fall asleep?
Since
once upon a time till this very day, children have been told the very
same stories as they get into bed. These tales, spun through many
mouths and ears, years and generations, never stop inspiring us,
teaching us, shaping us as much as we shape them.
The
thing is, when I opened up my copy of “Grimms' Fairy Tales”, I
realized I only knew about ten of the fifty something tales in
there.
So
I decided to educate myself. Every night before I went to sleep, I
began to read a couple of these tales. Each story I read left me with
questions, plenty of things to ponder and wonder about. I discovered
gems, tales that would tell so much, if only someone was listening.
Join
me on this quest through the unknown forest, to familiar lands that
have so much more to offer. Let's meet princes and soldiers, knights
and dwarfs, maidens and witches. We'll discover the stories without
happy endings and the heroes that don't deserve them. We can
adventure into realms of endless possibilities, where the stories
swept under the public radar still shine, still want to be told.
So
tell them I shall.
In
each post I will focus on another less known tale. I'll summarize and
analyze, and welcome you to join in too. Maybe together we can make
these tales known again, because most of them deserve it.
For
those who are wondering, I don't have any credentials. I don't have
lots of fairy tale experience, or even blog writing experience to
base my musings on. All I have is a love for fairy tales, an over
thinking mind, and the tales themselves in the original translations.
But when it comes to these stories, do I really need anything else?
